Riding for the Cause

For nearly three decades, former NASCAR driver and NBC Sports racing analyst Kyle Petty combined his passion for helping others and his love of motorcycles to create the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. Since the charity's formation in 1994, "The Ride" has been one of the most successful and popular charity events in the country. Over 8,600 riders have logged more than 12.4 million cumulative motorcycle miles and raised more than $19 million for Victory Junction and other children's charities.

Victory Junction provides life-changing camping experiences in medically safe environments for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. They are exciting, fun, empowering, and always free of charge. The magic of camp reaches beyond the gates of the traditional campground, Victory Junction’s REACH program takes the camping experience to children and their families at hospitals, clinics, and in Ronald McDonald Houses throughout North and South Carolina.

Creating a permanent, measurable, life-changing impact is the goal of Victory Junction. The camp is designed to combat stress and the psychosocial challenges children experience related to illness and medical treatment. In a recent survey of campers, it was reported that 66% of families saw increased interest in social activity, 79% noticed boosted confidence, 77% reported elevated self-esteem, and 64% reported an increased sense of belonging.

Petty and his family created the Ride in 2004 in honor of his late son, Adam. Victory Junction has served as the Ride's primary beneficiary since its establishment. “When you see these kids leave with a smile on their face, that’s a little bit of Adam smiling with each of them,” says Kyle. Since 2004, Victory Junction has delivered more than 100,000 camping experiences for children with serious illnesses and chronic medical conditions in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and a few other countries. Victory Junction is a member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network of Camps founded by Paul Newman and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
