Stay in the Fight

Stay In The Fight Veterans Foundation

Led by Wiley X President Myles Freeman and his wife Alicia, the Stay In The Fight Veterans Foundation is dedicated to helping justice-involved veterans heal, rebuild, and thrive. Alicia serves as the Foundation’s President, while Myles contributes as Treasurer and Board Member.

A major focus of the foundation is its support for equine therapy within the North Texas Veterans Court’s V.A.L.O.R. Program — an innovative rehabilitation initiative designed specifically for veterans in the criminal justice system.

About the V.A.L.O.R. Program

Veterans Accessing Lifelong Opportunities for Rehabilitation (V.A.L.O.R.) is a court-led, in-custody rehabilitation program tailored for veterans facing legal challenges. The program addresses:

  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Mental health and substance use disorders
  • Decision-making and pro-social behaviors

The ultimate goal: to help veterans develop the tools they need to reenter society with confidence and dignity.

Equine Therapy: Healing Through Connection

In collaboration with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Stay In The Fight Veterans Foundation funds and supports the equine therapy portion of V.A.L.O.R. This powerful therapeutic component uses guided interactions with horses to help veterans:

  • Build trust and emotional resilience
  • Enhance self-awareness and regulation
  • Develop healthy coping strategies

Sheriff Jim Skinner and Judge John Roach — key architects of the North Texas Regional Veterans Court — have championed equine therapy as a vital tool in helping veterans overcome trauma and reintegration challenges.

A Second Chance

A life-changing feature of the V.A.L.O.R. program: veterans who successfully complete the program, including its equine therapy component, may qualify for record expungement, giving them a true second chance at life.

Our Mission: Help Veterans Thrive

Stay In The Fight Veterans Foundation is committed to bridging the gap between trauma and transformation. By connecting veterans to evidence-based therapy, peer support, and life-changing opportunities, we empower them not just to survive — but to thrive.
