Kristy Lee Cook believes being homeschooled provides unlimited opportunities. She, her brother, and sister were homeschooled. “I got one-on-one attention and didn’t have to go to school all day,” Kristy Lee says. The children had an active presence in the local school system via sports and dances and still felt included in the community. She and her husband intend to carry on that tradition with their son. “I like the attention and opportunities you get schooling at home. You can go on trips and still study, avoid peer pressure and learn things you shouldn’t be learning in schools these days.”
Kristy Lee is the host of The Most Wanted List on the Sportsman Channel, which is in its sixth season. On the show, Kristy Lee, her family, and friend share their outdoor adventures. Their viewers join them on scouting, hunting and harvest trips as they learn about the importance of having people you love with you on adventures and conservation. Kristy Lee sang for fun throughout childhood, at age 14 she started working with a manager and vocal coach. At 16, she began working with Leann Rimes’ manager and signing in honky-tonks in Texas. She signed her first record deal at 17 and cut an album, but it was never released. She did not let that stop her.
Kristy Lee continued to sing in Texas until she got her big break and became a finalist on American Idol. “American Idol is a huge platform,” says Kristy Lee. “You get in front of so many people, it’s hard not to have a career after that platform.” She recorded an album after the show and it hit top 30 on the Billboard Country Music charts. Her most memorable moment from her music career was being asked to work on a Merle Haggard tribute album in which she sang with Garth Brooks and Jason Aldean.
